Our Story

Little Mountain Coffee exists for one reason—to help fund The Little Mountain School in Joya Honda, Palencia, Guatemala.

Since its founding, the school has been supported primarily through donations and grants to Guatemalan Educational Outreach, Inc. (GEO), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Lexington, KY. But to create a more sustainable future, Fr. Miguel Alvizures envisioned a new approach: growing coffee in Guatemala and selling it in the U.S. to generate ongoing support for the school.

This vision took root when a group from Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Lexington, KY, visited Joya Honda in 2021. Moved by the commitment of the students and teachers, they returned home determined to help. They began selling Fr. Miguel’s Little Mountain Coffee in their parish and community—and from that spark, Little Mountain Coffee was born.

Thanks to its cooperative model, 100% of profits from coffee sales from Little Mountain Coffee support The Little Mountain School, helping to provide quality education, nourishment, and opportunity for children in one of Guatemala’s most underserved regions.
